End of life care volunteers offer time, care and compassion to adult inpatients at Weston Hospital.
The end of life care volunteer service is a new service for Weston General Hospital which we are recruiting for currently. Volunteers offer time, care and compassion at the bedside to those who have been identified as in the last phase of their lives. This support may involve listening and talking to patients and their loved ones, reading or sharing music to offer comfort, or simply being a quiet presence at the bedside. Good communication skills, gentle and empathetic, able to listen without judgement, resilient and able to volunteer fairly independently - though training and support is an important part of the role.
This is a rewarding and also challenging role, supporting people at a very difficult time. Offering care and compassion to people at the end of their lives, and their loved ones, can offer support and comfort. You will also gain experience through being in a busy hospital environment.
3 hours per session, which includes some report writing at the end of each session.
