Read Easy North Somerset
Read Easy provides free, confidential, one to one coaching for adults who struggle with reading.
Suitable volunteers are needed to train as Reading Coaches for our friendly Team in North Somerset. You will be Coaching in Weston-super-Mare. You will help to develop the reading skills of an adult Reader who has difficulty with reading. You will meet face to face (most likely) or potentially online with your Reader in an approved venue for two separate sessions of approximately 30-40 minutes each week. You will use the phonics based 'Turning Pages' programme and other resources provided to you.
Advice, Information & Support
Basic IT skills - internet & email, Evaluating & Reviewing, Reading & Writing
Confident reading skills and a clear communicator. Ability to talk and listen to the person you coach in a patient, positive and encouraging way. A non judgemental attitude and respect for others. Ability to focus on your Reader and their needs. Ability to work alone but seek support when necessary. A commitment to undertake the training provided.
Working with other volunteers as part of a friendly team to change the lives of the individual you Coach. High quality and free initial and follow up training. Ongoing support from a group Coordinator, Literary Specialist and other team members. Invitation to quarterly Coach meetings to share tips, resources and learning with other local Reading Coaches.
Two to three hours on average per week to include, ideally, two 30-40 minutes sessions with the reader.
