Outpatients and Discharge Lounge Volunteer (Weston General Hospital)

Volunteers required to provide support to the patients and visitors of the Outpatients department and Discharge Lounge at Weston General Hospital.
• Providing a friendly welcome to patients and visitors of the clinics. • Updating patients with waiting times. • Signposting to other support and services, as required. • Restocking of resources i.e. cups / leaflets / activity packs and preparing information packs, where applicable. • Keeping patients company if they are on their own, engaging in conversation and utilising resources where available. • Providing a hot drinks and light refreshments (when agreed with the volunteering area/Division). • Supporting patients to take off outer wear i.e. coats/jackets, to help prepare for their appointment (where agreed with the volunteering area/Division). • Occasionally moving patients in wheelchairs from the clinic to a ‘pick-up point’ in the hospital (where agreed with the volunteering area/Division).

• A friendly, welcoming, approachable manner. • Good social and communication skills, and proactive in approaching people. • Able to demonstrate empathy to others • Ability to walk / stand for most of your volunteering session. • Being sensitive to peoples’ vulnerabilities. • Reliable and trustworthy. • Ability to volunteer alone at times, with support from the staff team. • Ability to follow infection prevention and control standards in place (including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, PPE) in the hospitals, and tactfully and sensitively be able to encourage visitors to follow those same standards, where applicable. • An understanding and ability to implement good personal and professional boundaries.
• Experience of the NHS, within a CQC awarded ‘Good Trust’. • Rewarding experience, helping to make someone’s time in hospital a bit easier. • Working as part of a team. • Training and full induction. • Volunteer uniform. • Access to NHS Discounts. • Reasonable travel expenses paid.
One session a week for a minimum of 6 months. Monday 09:00-12:00 or 14:00-17:00 Thursday 09:00-12:00
