We’re looking for friendly, sensitive and proactive people to volunteer at our Welcome Centres. If you love meeting people and want to help welcome refugees to the local area in a safe and supportive space, this could be the role for you.
We’re looking for friendly, sensitive and proactive people to volunteer at our Welcome Centres and to befriend refugee and asylum seeking families by offering friendship and support. If you love meeting people and want to help welcome refugees to the local area in a safe and supportive space, this could be the role for you. The role might include: ● Setting up the Welcome centre for guests by moving tables and chairs and making the space welcoming, then putting it back at the end of the session; ● Greeting people and to make sure other volunteers and guests are marked in and out on the register; ● Looking after and keeping the kitchen clean and tidy, making and offering people drinks; ● Chatting with guests, and helping the centre to be a welcoming space; ● Practising English with guests, using worksheets, magazines or conversation prompts; ● Answering questions from guests about issues they may have such as filling in forms, making appointments or other phone calls; ● Offering companionship by giving help and advice about local groups and services available, how to get involved and support in attending; ● Helping with information and advice about local culture and community; ● Debriefings with the team after the Welcome Centre, and regular check-ins with volunteer coordinator and peer support with other volunteers; ● Reporting any safeguarding concerns to the relevant person, in line with our Safeguarding policy.

You'll need to be a friendly, approachable and open person who enjoys meetings new people and people from different backgrounds. You'll be proactive and helpful as well as respectful and patient. You'll be able to work independently but also as a member of a team.
You'll see the local area from a different perspective and learn from people and their ways of life. You'll be helping people feel more welcome and integrated into the local area.
3 - 6 hours per week, with a commitment of one year
